Braunton

The village of Braunton is an ideal place for a holiday in North Devon.  Often described as England's largest village the history of Braunton dates back to the sixth century when a Welsh missionary, St. Brannock, founded a parish in the area.

The modern village now comprises two distinct areas - the old village with narrow streets and curiosity shops, and the new town which has a great selection of shops selling food and drink, local crafts and gifts.

The fantastic beach at Saunton Sands, is what brings many holidaymakers to the Braunton area  This three mile long expanse of sandy beach faces due west with some of the best surf in the area.  The beach is backed by the Burrows, the largest system of sand dunes in the UK which form part of the country's first UNESCO biosphere reserve.  With Croyde, Woolacombe and many more beaches also within easy reach this area is ideal for a family beach holiday.

If you fancy venturing inland a little then the scenic Tarka Trail, a 180 mile long network of paths linking the North Coast with Dartmoor is close by and offers fantastic cycle paths and footpaths.

Golfers will be spoilt for choice here with Saunton Golf Club and its famous championship course. There is also the choice of The Royal North Devon, the oldest links course in England, the testing cliff top course of Ilfracombe or the parkland courses of Portmore and Willingcott Valley.

Other nearby attractions include the towns of Ilfracombe and Barnstaple, the peaceful splendour of Lundy Island and also majestic Exmoor.

If you're looking for a self-catering cottage holiday in the South West of England then the Braunton area of North Devon really does have something for everyone!  Enjoy your stay...
